The breed is characterized by great strength, endurance and agility. These dogs have a large broad head with a broad tapering muzzle, arched forehead and very strong jaws. The teeth are strong and correctly placed; a scissors bite is preferred. The only acceptable eye color is dark brown; the nose and the lips are black. When the dog is alert, wrinkles on the forehead can be seen. The back is firm and level; the neck is well-muscled and arched. The chest should be deep and broad. The legs are straight and muscular with compact feet. The only coat color is black.
