Rottweilers are the dogs that have a long history. There are many speculations concerning the origin of the breed. Several theories exist as far as the origin of the breed is concerned. Each dog, regardless of its chosen purpose to be a participant of the dog show or for a breeding program, should follow all the standards provided below.

Size: Dogs can be about 63-69 cm (25-27 ins) high as the bitches are usually about 58-64 cm (23-25 ins). This is a very important characteristic when the dogs participate in the show or are for breeding.

Weight: Should be about 90 to 100 pounds.

Eyes: The eyes are of medium size, almond-shaped, and usually come in dark brown. Light eyes are undesirable; eyelids should be close fitting.

Ears: The ears of the dog should be pendant, small in proportion rather than large, and set high and wide apart, lying flat and close to cheek.

Mouth: Teeth of the dog should be strong, complete dentition with scissor bite, thus the upper teeth are closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaws. The flews are black and firm, falling gradually away towards corners of mouth, which do not protrude excessively.

Neck: The neck should be of fair length, strong, round and very muscular. It should also be slightly arched and free from throatiness.

Forequarters: Shoulders must be well laid back, long and sloping. Elbows well let down, but not loose; legs are straight, muscular, with plenty of bone and substance.
